The Department has started functioning right from the beginning of the College history. At first there was a need for only one staff in the department but Rev. Fr. M. George Malancharivil, the first principal of this esteemed institution insisted that one more staff should be appointed. This incident clearly process the fact that the college has shown special interest to impart English related skills to the poor and marginalized students of this rural area.

The advent of Globalisation has necessitated a need for English language all over the world. It has become a medium of communication and it has become essential to have sound language skill in all walks of life. Having realised this fact, P.G. Course in English was established from this year 2007 to 08.

The Department has achieved many milestones. Our result in part II English has been one of the best performances is the University. "A teacher is for the needy". Keeping this principle, the members of the faculty strive hard to achieve excellent results. Weak students are given special results. Weak students are given special attention so that they may come of in flying colour in all their endeavours.

While teaching part II English to all the students, the faculty probes and provides special opportunities for the students to improve their English standard.

Year by year Spoken English classes are conducted and students are well trained is Group discussions and interviews. The Department also takes active part is our college placement cell. The staffs give valuable suggestions to the students and make them mastery over the art of speech making. They involve and help the placement – cell meetings.

Literary Association Meetings are conducted. During these meetings, students are encouraged to involve in paper-presentations seminars and speeches. Quiz competitions are conducted to develop both their subject as well as language skills.

• To improve the leadership quality we are conducting many association meeting.
• We have a well-established library having immense works of both living and yester year authors.
• we have well established language lab with more than 40 computers, car-phones and the latest language, Software (C.D.S).

Anyone, who has completed UG course in any subject, can join for M.A. course. Though English literature is our main concern, special interest is shown to develop value, related skills, phonetics, spoken English, computer literacy are our other major concerns.
